A vital element of modern sword fencing is the protective clothing that fencers wear, and modern improvements are far removed from the full and (extremely) heavy suits of armour of ancient times.
State of the art equipment made by companies such as Leon Paul ensure that current protective clothing matches the modern requirements of being both comfortable to wear and safe to use, made of materials such as Kevlar and other hard-wearing synthetic fabrics.
Standard equipment for a social fencer would include a glove for the fencing hand, an under-plastron to protect the sword arm side, a padded fencing jacket, a pair of three quarter sword fencing breeches and a mask. In competition fencing, when fencers compete using electric equipment to register hits, this would also include a lame jacket and an electric bodywire that needs to be plugged into the sword handle.

To wear all of this equipment in a corporate environment would be restrictive so at Balestra we have merged the two disciplines of sword fencing and martial arts to use pre-formed chest protectors as a protective target area, ensuring a quick and easy setup, complete safety and fantastic enjoyment from all participants.
It is impossible to imagine what it must have felt like to face a real-life opponent in days gone by with an actual sword, to fight either to the first cut (the requirement of many duels) or even worse to the death. However at Balestra we can offer a taste of that excitement with our modern adaptation of this wonderful sport, delivered by qualified coaches with years of experience of teaching and coaching fencers of all ages.
Our passion for the sport is based on the massive amount of enjoyment we get from facing opponents in our own sword fencing, and this is a passion that we endeavour to pass on to clients in every single one of our corporate sessions.
So contact us now at Balestra and see how we can inject some excitement into your business day, to provide your team or clients with an experience they will never forget.
